Overall very pleased. The only one flaw is the price of cartridges. All that I needed to print documents with my laptop. This isn't a flaw, just an annoyance. This printer is great. Very fast printing and setup. They are very expensive and can drain quickly.
IN THE MONTHS THAT FOLLOW IT WILL CONSTANTLY HAVE PAPER JAMS AND THEN IT WILL JUST QUIT WORKING ALL TOHGETHER. I AM DOUBTFUL THAT HP WILL EVER MAKE IT WHEN THEY CAN SELL DISPOSABLE PRINTERS TO MAKE THE COMPANY MORE MONEY. THIS PRINTER WILL LAST 2 YEARS AND WORK GREAT DURING THAT TIME. I AM STILL LOOKING FOR A BASIC HOUSEHOLD PRINTER THAT WILL LAST 5 YEARS MINIMUM AND PRINT ONLY IN AFFORDABLE BLACK AND WHITE.
Thus is my second 54440 and I have printed tons on it. Even # 1 on it's last legs after a few years kept on chugging so I was glad to findthe exact one to continue.
The doesn't contain a counter chip, no need for reset procedures, these are made for refilling, too bad printers aren't made like that any more.- You can still print in black if you have empty/dry color cartridge (vice versa), the printer will not lock until you replace the empty cartridge.Convenience:------------- Not that noisy, doesn't shake that much, doesn't heat or need no warming up.- Pictbridge front port, so you can print pics directly from you digicam without a PC.Reliability:------------Although it depends on the usage patterns. The 5ml/$20 cartridge would easily yield me 200+ pages.- Not enough for you. People reporting paper jams after 3 years of usage, I think this should be taken for the printer, not being an office horse (not made to be).Bottom line:------------Small form factor, reliable, near studio quality photo printing, refillable with zero trouble. with photo ink and proper photo paper, you can certainly get pictures far better than those from your local Walmart ;), but don't expect it to cost it as low as Walmart's though.Bang of buck:--------------I have done lots of black only printing. automatic duplexing ;) well, here Inkjet Ink Refill Kit Premium BLACK and Color 21oz(595ml) - Univeral ink compatibility, this almost 100x the ink for 1.25x the price.- The HP cartridges that comes with it (92/93) are refillable, no need to drill.
What else can someone ask for. 3 years and still going strong.I have got this printer early 2006, hocked to a 24/7 computer and shared it on my home wireless network, and couldn't be more pleased.Print Quality:---------------Its not just an HP printer, its an HP photo printer. Fast Draft was acceptable for me (printing shopping lists and school reports). mine is into its 4th year and still going strong.
Now, it jams everytime I print. Bad Points: Takes up a lot of ink it seems, but the cartridges aren't all that expensive though. Quieter than my previous Canon. After a year's use, it starts to get paper jam often. Lasted for about 2 years until it keeps having paper jam every time I try to print something. I'm looking for another printer now.Good Points (During the first year of use): Good Picture Quality. Kinda slow if you do normal printing.
